Making A Quilt Design Wall

When we moved into our new home the highest priority for me was getting my quilting studio up and running since quilting is my full time job i ve had many people asking me how i built my design wall in my old house so when we created it again in the new place i took step by step pictures so i could tell you all about it in detail.

A design wall is a fabulous tool for quilters as it lets you step back from your work and view your quilt on a single plane.

You make this just like a regular quilt with a layer of flannel on top and a layer of batting behind. It works best if you have a dedicated sewing space since the design wall is permanently attached to the wall. You can use it for aaaanything like arranging fabrics comparing colors organizing finished quilt blocks so many steps of the quilting process can benefit from a design wall. Just stretch it out and let it relax naturally.

You can audition fabrics or block placement and you can get a sense of how your quilt top is taking shape as you position each block in its place.
